How much binding do I need?
  1. Find the perimeter measurement of your quilt:
    1. Measure the width ________ + length _________ = ________
    2. Multiply the above total x 2 ___________. That is the perimeter.
      Example: If your quilt is 60"x80", the perimeter is 60”+80”=140” 140” x 2 = 280” total perimeter.
  2. Add an extra 15 inches to the perimeter measurement for seaming and turning corners.
Example: 280”+15”= 295” total of binding needed.

How much Fabric should I buy?
  1. Look at Row 1 on the table. Find the column with number for inches of binding that is equal to or greater than the amount you need.
  2. If you want finished binding that is 3/8” wide on the quilt, look in row 2 of that column for the yardage needed. OR If you want finished binding that is 3/4” wide on the quilt, look in row 3 of that column for the yardage needed.

Fabric Preparation:
  • Binding Fabric needs to be pre-washed IF you pre-washed the fabric for the rest of the quilt.
  • Fabric should be pressed and neatly folded.
  • Pin a note to the binding fabric stating “Use for Binding” and also write the finished width of binding, either 3/8 inch or 3/4 inch, that you desire.
